Bringing Back 90s Teeny Bopping

So the latest craze right now is bringing back all those poppy 90s groups and reliving childhood memories, reminiscing through music and getting giddy off remembering the lyrics to songs you may have once forgotten, whilst screaming like a 10 year old girl because you get to breathe the same air as your favourite music idol that would have most likely moved on with their lives, but have since jumped on the bandwagon to revive their careers. WOW that was one really long sentence. I should have stopped at some point but I felt I needed to get it all out in one go.

Now, I was the biggest bubblegum pop teeny bopper in the 90s. I loved them all from 5ive, BSB, NSYNC, Aqua, Spice Girls, All Saints, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, S Club 7 etc etc… The list really goes on and I would spend all day listing who I loved as a kid.

I am writing this post because I attended NKOTBSB’s concert last night and was blown away at how they can still kick it and blow my mind. For those that have no idea who they are it is NKOTB – New Kids on the Block and BSB – Backstreet Boys. Please bear in mind that I have been waiting 18 years for this!! I missed out BSB 4 years ago when they came to Perth but since they have joined forces with NKOTB with a successful international tour, I had to attend this show at all costs!

Let me tell you that Perth is like one of the least visited cities in Australia for anyone to come to. We miss out on most things because we are so remote from other major cities. It is only in the last 10 years where concerts and gigs have really ramped up and you could see most modern day artists if you pleased.

Now, at the peak of BSB’s career, I believe they only ever visited Sydney and Melbourne so as a kid, you could probably imagine how disappointed I was! That sad lil Asian girl dreaming of marrying her favourite boy band idol just diminished. I was that sad lil Asian girl. I even memorized the Everybody Backstreet’s back dance. For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s this one:

Starts about 1 minute 15 seconds in but more so at 4 minutes 48 seconds. Oh I must have been so cool back then!

Now, you’re probably thinking who wants to see some late 30 – 40 year olds sing and dance? Well I did because 18 years is a long time to be waiting to see someone perform live. I probably could have traveled to another country to see them but I don’t have the luxury of just jumping on a plane and hop off at a new location.

I can definitely say that I screamed like a 10 year old. I fantasized what it would be like kissing them. They far exceeded expectations and kept the crowd going with upbeat dancing, inappropriate hip thrusts (which we all secretly loved) and despised the fans they chose to go on stage to serenade. In most part, they did look fit and some of them looked better now than they did back then.

I am still in love with Brian Littrell, would happily have his babies and have a new found love for NKOTB because Donnie Wahlberg brought it! and then some!

Here are my fan pics posted on my instagram.

oooh Brian!

BSB on the big screens!

The lucky bitches… I mean fans that got to be on stage with BSB.

NKOTB kicking it!

Donnie Wahlberg with his shirt off!! Ooh Yeah!

Check out my instagram and I shall post more pics up later.

It was definitely one of the best concerts I have been to. I like to be entertained and see the artists engage with their audience and be full of life and energy. They did well and could probably out do some of the modern artists today.

I’ve got to say that with more and more groups making comebacks, it definitely keeps our hearts young. It was great being a kid again! If I could do it again I will!
